The Editor / Writer

My journey to becoming the Editor-in-Chief at Capitol File magazine was long and winding, yet my passion and aptitude for editing never wavered. Throughout my tenure as an editor, I have bylined hundreds of articles, a selection of which I have shared below. Despite my extensive writing experience, my core identity has always been firmly rooted in the role of an editor. This journey began with an opportunity as an assistant editor at The American University's academic journal, Congress and the Presidency, during my graduate studies. This experience paved the way for international work in Japan and Hong Kong, eventually leading me to the vibrant heart of Washington DC.

To excel as an editor, one must embrace a multidisciplinary approach. Collaboration with writers, designers, photographers, stylists, and contributing editors is essential. Skills in negotiation and invoice management are crucial, as is the ability to strategically plan multiple issues simultaneously – typically three or four – to maintain deadlines and keep production flowing smoothly. Creativity, vision, persuasion, attention to detail, resilience, charisma, and strict discipline are indispensable traits for meeting relentless deadlines, chasing down leads, and making engaging print content. 

Throughout most of my career, I specialized in producing glossy luxury lifestyle magazines, releasing 8 to 10 issues annually. This meant that for nearly a decade, I faced a deadline every five weeks. It is a demanding profession, characterized by both high pressure and high rewards. From 2006 to 2020, I interacted with some of the world's most influential figures, attended extraordinary events and openings, and traveled globally to create stunning luxury lifestyle magazines. Collaborating with exceptionally talented teams on each issue was a valuable and amazing part of this process.
